Here is a little blog post from my trip on Friday. I won two guestlist spots (via twitter) to go and watch Two Wounded Birds in London. You may remember them from my blog post about The Great Escape Festival. I was really excited when they said I had won, so me and Nicole decided to go there on Friday after I had finished work.
I was a little nervous about the drive as I hadn't done a long drive before, but luckily we had a sat nav which was really helpful!
I don't drive with my eyes closed, I swear! :) It was a pretty easy drive, actually.
I decided that it was the perfect occasion to wear my dress from Kelly Lauren's etsy! Sorry about the photos, it was getting kinda dark by this point. We were waiting for the bus to take us to the venue :) I love this dress so much and I cannot wait to wear it again!
And Nicole looked super chic and gorgeous (as always) in this striped skater dress from Topshop and bow suspender tights.
The venue was pretty cool, quite small, like a pub with a stage basically. I always like those sort of venues.
The band were really awesome, it was great to see them again because I couldn't really see much the last time I saw them. They came and said hello to us too which was really nice of them :). I have recommended them a lot of times I think, but go and check their stuff out here. Really, they are great!
Here are the band doing their thang...
I will be definitely going to watch them again soon hopefully!
That's pretty much it for today, I'm pretty tired and am feeling very lazy!
I hope you have all had a fab weekend. Oh, and if you haven't yet, please check out my latest Dahlia blog post! I would love it if you could leave a comment please :D
Prepare for an image overload! Sorry, I just love this outfit :)
I hope you are all well and have been having a good week. I know I've been having a super busy one!
I was really excited when I saw this dress because of how versatile it is. I decided to pair the girly dress with more edgy details, as I really love the contrast. These tights already had a hole in so I added a few more. I wore a grungy pair of boots, and finished the look off with some grungy jewellery and my favourite black hat. I think the black against the light pink and white polka dots works really well! I am also planning to wear this dress with white knee high socks and grey brogues.
If you could all head over to the Dahlia blog to see the rest of this post, that would be awesome. It would be even more awesome if you could leave me a comment! :D
I'm lacking with blog comments, but plan to spend tonight and hopefully tomorrow catching up. I hope you like this look!
I got this dress in a charity shop for £6. It's Topshop, but I have never seen it in there. I love the quirky heart print with the heart cut out back! I couldn't resist it, and I am so happy that I found it! I really wanted to wear it with no bra so that the heart cut out was used to it's full potential, but I didn't have a backless bra... So, I decided to put this lace vest on underneath instead. I think it looks quite cute :).
It is still super windy in England, it's so annoying. Sorry for the rubbish background but this was the least windy place I could find! I have lots of deadlines to hit so I need to go and do some work now, but I hope you like my look!
I wore this tee a long time ago, as I got it for my birthday last June. I decided that I wanted to bring it up to date a bit, so I decided to fringe it! The great thing is, if I get bored of the fringing, I can cut it off so it’s a crop top. 3 tops from one, score! :) Being a poor student and everything, means that I pretty much just work with what I have, or get things from charity shops, apart from the occassional treat.
I decided to wear it with my leather topshop skirt (charity shop bargain!) and faux doc marten boots. I also borrowed Nicole's rosary beads and wore the fabulous new Grungy ring I got from Kelly Lauren!
As you can see, it was pretty damn windy here in England today. I hate taking photos when it’s windy, it just makes things so awkward
Again, it seems ages since my last post. I'm sorry, I always seem to be busy! I'm not lazy, I promise...
So I ordered a navy blue velvet dress from Kelly Lauren's etsy (check her BLOG out too) and the parcel arrived on Thursday. It was so much fun opening it, It felt like christmas! It was so personal and sweet, and there were some extra goodies in there too.
The note it came with was so cute - on the envelope it said "and when I fell on the floor... I drank more" (she knows I love the Smiths...)
The Smiths reference continued inside:
And it also said this:
SO cute right!?
And I just LOVE all of the extra goodies... I think that they were well thought out...
This adorable pleated pink blouse, with a button up back...
A really cute pink flower brooch, an awesome grungy ring, and a peacock bangle and necklace!! Isn't it just so thoughtful? Thank you SO much Kelly, I will definitely be buying from your shop again.
Oh and the dress is amazing, I cannot wait to wear it!!
Now, I wore this outfit on Thursday. Sorry that the photos aren't that good, I forgot my camera so I had to have them taken on a phone. I'm wearing my Frankie & The Heartstrings tee, that I customised because it was a little big for me. I just cropped it and cut the sleeves off.
I guess you could say that this is my take on 70s style.... suede-esque mini skirt, leopard platforms and feather earrings... about as far as I go! I make it mine with my band tee, white ankle socks and vintage bag.
I wore this to college, but our afternoon lecturer was sick, so I went out for some drinks with my friends... The sun was shining and we ended up drinking beer from 3pm till like, 12. It was nice! :)
Well, I hope you like my look! Thanks to everyone who comments and all who follow. I love you!
Wow, it feels like it's been so long! I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping up with your posts, but I have had so much going on. I have had tons of college work, we are trying to sell our house because my parents have seperated, and I have also seperated from my boyfriend. But, I am back and ready now :D.
From Thursday to Sunday, Nicole and I were at the wonderful Great Escape Festival in Brighton. You basically get a wristband which allows entry into lots and lots of venues across Brighton, hosting new music. It was awesome! I had the best time ever.
Warning: This post is going to be long and musical, so if you aren't interested then i suggest that you leave now! No offence taken :).
THURSDAY
The first band of the day were this weird and wonderful french band called GaBle. I suggest you check them out, I can't really describe it but they were pretty theatrical and very funny! Not to be taken seriously. Go here and a code for some free songs is GABLE4FREE.
We then checked into our hotel. Our bed was major comfy, they had the best pillows :).
What we wore:
We didn't mean to colour co-ordinate, I swear!
We then watched a band called Deep Sea Arcade, who were pretty cool and catchy, but nothing amazing.
We then headed over to my favourite venue of the weekend - Hector's House - to watch a band called Two Wounded Birds. I absolutely loved them! They are like a dark and edgy mix of Beach Boys and The Ramones. Love! I definitely think you should check these songs out:
We then walked from Hector's House to Horatios, which was at the end of Brighton pier. A lovely shot of Brighton on the way:
We then saw another awesome band, The History of Apple Pie. The line up just said "special guests" so we had no idea who to expect. AND they had the coolest female bassist. I would definitely recommend them, head here.
Next we headed over to The Haunt to watch LA based Group Love. They describe their music as "best friends skydiving." Not sure what that means but you can listen here :).
FRIDAY
The first band of the day were an Aussie four piece, called The Jezabels. The singer had such a beautiful voice, and their sound is dramatic with poignant piano leads. Check them out here.
We then went to watch Brother & Bones, who were awesome live, but when we got their CD back to the hotel, we were pretty dissappointed as it didn't sound anything like the live music... So I'm not sure if I should reccommend them to you...
PS I Love You - difficult to describe. I LOVED them. Kinda grungy and cool.
Back to Hector's house for an awesome band who definitely looked like they were from 90's Seattle. They were called Tripwires. Again, I would totally recommend that you check them out here.
After that was a band that I was very much looking forward to, The Heartbreaks. This was also at Hector's House and I made sure I had my spot at the front. :). They did not dissappoint at all; they put on an amazing show that definitely had me singing and dancing ;). To top it off, we met them afterwards and they were lovely, charming lads. The frontman and Burberry model, Matthew was especially charming. I think all the guys have modelled for Asos too actually. Cool right? They dress awesome! You should definitely check them out:
Here's Nicole with the drummer, Joseph.
And me with some random cool guy from LA? He was nothing to do with The Heartbreaks though, haha...
We kind of hung around with them afterwards which was fun. We didn't actually get to bed untill 7am :| It was a little crazy...
So as a result, we got up reaaally late on Saturday. We hardly watched any bands at all - Die! Die! Die! were pretty cool, but the band I was most looking forward to were the lovely Frankie & The Heartstrings! I've mentioned them on here before, and I was really excited because they were playing twice. Both performances were amazing, especially the second performance. They have a wonderful stage presence, and frontman Frankie did his first set standing on some sort of speaker/sound system, and the second set standing on the bar! I have met them before so I was really happy to talk to them afterwards. They are such a great bunch of lads. It was fabulous, check them out!
Me and my dear friend Michael, the guitarist. He's my favourite, sorry guys...
Nicole with Den, the bassist. Pretty cool guy!
All in all I had the best time, and I would like to thank my dear friend Nicole, Frankie & The Heartstrings (including awesome merch boy Rory - i love doritos and free merch!), The Heartbreaks and all of the other bands for making it special.
For anyone who managed to read this all the way through, thanks!
